"Block by Block: Mastery in Woodcut Prints" invites art lovers into the captivating worlds of Shirley Bernstein and Lynita Shimizu, two local master printmakers who bring distinct interpretations to the art of woodcut.

Shirley Bernstein's work resonates with the organic power and mystical beauty of nature, drawing from her experience in the rural landscapes of Connecticut. Her woodcuts, often described as "suicide prints" for their commitment to the subtractive process, embody a sense of light, movement, and the transcendent force of natural forms. Each print is a layered, spiritual journey into the vastness of sky and earth, inviting viewers to contemplate the ephemeral and enduring aspects of nature.

Lynita Shimizu’s prints, steeped in the techniques of traditional Japanese woodblock printmaking, reflect her deep connection to Japanese culture and aesthetics. Trained by masters in Kyoto and Tokyo, Shimizu combines the precision of traditional methods with a modern, vibrant color palette and composition. From her studio overlooking a serene beaver pond, she creates works that pulse with life, blending the tranquility of her Connecticut surroundings with the energy and clarity characteristic of Japanese art.

This exhibition celebrates the intricate craft and artistic vision that go into each carved line and layered color, inviting visitors to experience the expressive potential of woodcut printmaking.

Join us for the opening of this extraordinary exhibit, where you'll have the unique opportunity to meet the artists and gain firsthand insight into their creative process. Discover the inspiration behind their stunning woodcut prints, and perhaps take home a piece to enrich your space and daily life with the beauty of fine art.

Silver Circle Gallery is thrilled to celebrate 16 years as a vibrant community art hub, showcasing the incredible talents of local artists across all genres. A space designed to inspire, Silver Circle is where creativity flourishes, connections are made, and collaborations come to life. Join us in supporting and celebrating the arts in our community!
